Recently, someone I know recommended that I do not go to hoop at the Democratic
National Conference in Denver this year. She was certain that political activists would not be the ‘type of people’ that would want to hoop. She could not envision anyone but outdoorsy folk being interested. I explained that business men from Wall St. and ones who lived on Park Ave. in NYC were many of my loyal students. She continued to worry that people in suits, on their way to presentations would never step into the hoop. That weekend, Melody Moezzi, the author of War on Error and I hosted Hoop 4 Peace groups for 10 hours each day. We were joined by a few professional hoopers but also got to teach and hoop with over 800 people. All of them were totally intrigued by how the hoop quickly produced a hypnotic and relaxing feeling in their mind and body.
Martin Luther King has said that “Sustaining a lifetime of personal action and involvement requires a network of social support.” I not only agree but also believe that practicing personal action will develop your network of social support. We’re always attracting the thoughts that we put out. I believe that truly knowing who you are and daring to express yourself is one of the most powerful things about being human. It builds community, confidence and a universal sense of joy.
My company is not set up for non profit yet accepts donations for both providing my hoops and Hoop Warriors program to schools and kids groups throughout the country.
It also accepts donations for providing hoops and the opportunity for me to teach in 3rd world countries.
Anyone can be a Hoop 4 Peace Activist. You can either donate to BHDT® to have hoops provided for your community, you can offer to hoop at your local youth center, hospital or school social. You will inspire others to break out of their fears and judgments. Not everyone might be interested in trying something new but I guarantee that you that if you look like you are having great time you will attract people who want to do the same.
