Hoop SnowBoarding
The late Tom Sims who was a pioneer and a skateboard /snowboard legend, and his wife, gifted Betty a snowboard in 2001. The longer, more flexy board helped her excel at this very hard cross sport.
She has appeared for many years on ESPN’s White Out Segment, during the Aspen Winter X Games. The producer of America’s Got Talent contacted her to simulate Hoop Boarding on the show in 2014. She made it to the Celebrity Judges Round!
Her first children’s book, ‘ Mountain Hoop Magic,’ is about her adventures Hoop Boarding in Aspen. You can buy it on Amazon!
BETTY'S DOWNHILL GEAR
- 151" Sugarboard, Designed & gifted by the legend Tom Sims
- 2 Betty Hoop's taped together, 5 segments each, about 3.5 lbs
THE PHYSICS OF HOOP BOARDING
The C-Force & G-Force must be equal. If the hoop is too light, it will fall and create too much torque in the back and pull one off their edges. The fast downhill speed means that Betty must use a hoop that is about 3.5 pounds. Heavy enough to withstand wind and downhill speed.
Olympic Snowboarder Gretchen Bleiler has even tried her shot at Hoop Boarding with Betty! Check it out!
